Hockey Fun for All Ages

The junior section of Exeter and Culm Vale Hornets Hockey Club is a vibrant and very important part of the club. With well over 50 children attending Tuesday night coaching sessions it is no wonder that over the years we have started a number of national league and international players on their road to success. The latest goalkeeping addition to the full England squad, Harry Gibson is an ex Hornet junior who stayed with the club until his further education took him away. Apart from playing for England, Harry captained Loughborough Students and now plays in goal in for National League side Hampstead and Westminster. We are justifiably proud of Harry’s progress.

Aside from Harry another ex-Hornet junior is Roo Rosenwald who captained Great Britain Colleges side. Roo’s younger brother is now playing second team hockey in the Southern Conference at the ripe old age of just 14! The current boys U14s coach is another GB Colleges player in shape of James Glover so it is no wonder our U14s boys are a strong unit many of whom will be making their adult league debut this year in our fourth team where they are nurtured by older more experienced players.

Our junior development doesn’t stop with the boys, we currently have a young lady called Emma Heliwell who made her ladies’ 1st team debut at the age of 13 and now a year on is a regular member of the ladies first team playing in the Central Division.

We encourage all our young players to take part in the Regional Junior Development Performance Centres (the first step to representing your country) and last season Jake Upsher at the age of 12 performed extremely well making the age group county team and scored the winning goal against Somerset. At this point we should also point out that the aforementioned Emma Heliwell has been a regular county player for two years now.

With a raft of England Hockey qualified coaches and coaching assistants at the club your child is in safe hands so if the Olympics or the Commonwealth Games have encouraged your child to take up a sport, bring them along for a free taster session on any Tuesday night during the season – Culm Valley Sports Centre 6pm til 7.20pm (we provide the equipment).
